Loyalty is NOT always a virtue....
Misplaced loyalty is definitely NOT a virtue....
I'm an independent...I support Jim Webb.
I got to thinking what I would do if the "shoe" was on the other foot....If Jim Webb was guilty of racism and his behavior was finally catching up with him...what would I do?
Being independent, thinking for myself, and not willing to just go along to get along...I would have to renounce my support of Mr. Webb if that was the situation....
In fact, after contemplating Vivian Paige's writings I had some dialogues with friends and realized that the Webb campaign had failed to "activate" their base. I understand some folks are working to correct this situation.
So why does someone have blind loyalty? Why will they go down with someone who, if given the opportunity, would be the first to jump off the ship?
I'm creative but this is just blowing my mind....
So if you are a Republican and continue to support Allen....despite all the evidence....Why do you remain loyal?
If you are a Republican and have lost faith in George Allen...what do you do now?
I'm starting to believe that being the member of a political party in a two party system is not the best action for America in these times....I prefer to vote for the BEST candidate for the job.
In this VA Senate Race there's no longer a contest. Jim Webb is the best man for the job of representing Virginians and Americans in the Senate.
Who knows, if we get enough Jim Webb types elected, over time, we may be able to honestly call it the United States Senate once again.
In the meantime, how many Republicans will put party first and Virginia last?

Here's a GREAT South American Leader--Evo Morales

Mosquito has written alot about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez because a balanced picture is not presented in the United States. Much like the build up to war in Iraq (and now Iran) the propaganda machine goes into gear to activate Americans on a foundation of lies.
So I have taken it upon myself to defend Hugo Chavez. Sometimes it is difficult to do because Chavez sometimes runs his mouth and blusters too much...for example, calling President Bush a devil (yes Chavez has a grudge b/c the US has financed a coup and a previous assasination attempt..and continues to try to COLONIZE South America)....but calling Bush the Devil at the UN is not a productive exercise.
The Bolivian President Evo Morales is definitely my personal preference. He displays more of the indigenous politics that are sweeping the South (including my beloved Zapatistas in Mexico).
Take a little time and get to know this incredible man. Here is an hour long interview....If we could only get a man with his nature to lead our country.....
Here's the link (If you are coming to this late it's the Friday September 22, 2006 newscast.)

The Changing Face of Hampton Roads
I remember when it was difficult to get a crowd together for anything progressive in Hampton Roads. This has changed in the last few years thanks to the efforts of a number of Hampton Roads citizens such as Steve and Kim Baggerly and their Catholic Workers, Tom of the Gaia Circle, Tench at the Naro Cinema, Jean and Star of The iMage Project and the World Dreams Peace Bridge, the Emanuels in Va Beach with their monthly salons, Dani Vedros and David Gordon and their Second Saturday Salon, Tom Palumbo, Ann Williams, and George Ibarro of the the Southern Eye, Whit Peace, Alexandra Kedrock and the rest of the folk at Hampt0n Roads Network for Nonviolence, Susan Posey and her annual Fair Trade Festival, J.P and his friends with Food Not Bombs, Alma Kessling and Bev Sell and their work in Five Points, the local farmer markets, the folks at the 40th Street Theatre, Ann Hageman and the Equality VA community....These folks and others have come together to create a thriving prgressive network.
Last year a coalition of over twenty groups formed The Tidewater Peace Alliance. This organization worked with the Naro Cinema and started their work with The Light into Darkness Peace Film Festival last December.
The Unitarian Church hosted a celebration of the United Nations Day of Peace last night. This event was sponsored by The Tidewater Peace Alliance, the Naro Cinema, the Studio for the HEaling Arts, and a long list of local progressive organizations. 150 folks shared a night of inspirational speeches, dance, singing, and interactions with each other. It was definitely a warm community gathering.
This weekend the Green Film Festival continues...Naro will be showing a number of great films including Who Killed the Electric Car. There will also be seminars at the nearby Studio for the Healing Arts.
On Sunday evening i a new, important documentary--raq for Sale:The War Profiteers--will be shown. This is a new documentary and it's a must see for anyone planning to vote on November 7.
On Friday night, The film God and Gays: Bridging the Gap wukk be sgiwb, Nel White (Soulforce) and the producer and Director will be on hand to discuss the film. This is another must see film with the Marshall Neuman amendment on the ballot.

Net Neutrality is still on the block....
The telecommunications industry continues to pressure Congress to eliminate Net Neutrality. Senator Stevens, at this time, does NOT have the 60 votes needed to prevent a filibuster. If he can't muster the 60 votes net neutrality will be safe until the new congress reconvenes. IF that new Congress has a democratic majority in the Senate, Net Neutrality will probably be safe....but don't count on anything.
Here's a list of the Senators. Generally, an unknown is someone who is not declaring to their constituents their stance. This issue is not new....I find it hard to believe that the Senators have not researched and studied the issue, especially since so many bills were supposed to make it to the floor on this issue.
So check the list and please contact these people...The telecommunications keep the pressure on daily. We've been able to fend off the big money interest but it's only been through dilegence and perseverance. If you haven't discussed net neutrality with your Senators or representatvie pleace so do in the near future.

This is for Rocinante's Burdens
I couldn't find a way to comment on your Allen vs. Webb piece so I'm blogging this just for you.
After reading your post I believe this video is a must see for you. The video you want is titled "This is Absurd."
Expect more spin and dirt. After, all Senator Allen who pledges a "clean" campaign hired the original swiftboater to run his.
If you are looking for a candidate who runs on the issues you need to take a good long look at Jim Webb. I support Webb because of his character, his experience, and after lots of research.
I refuse to support George Allen because I know him. He prefers to support the corporate elite instead of me. He prefers to divide people not unite them. The disastrous War in Iraq, Rising Gas Prices (which will rise again after the election), and war profiteering are not in my best interests. Staying the course and allowing incompetents to continue to run the show with no accountability is not good government policy. Neing a rubber stamp for George Bush is bankrupting America.
Forget the labels, forget the party nonsense...Vote for the best candidate who will represent the interests of most Americans not a few wealthy elitists.

Nations Gather for Peace and Cooperation

The Non-Aligned Movement
The Fourteenth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement--NAM--will conclude today in Cuba.
NAM--is an international organization consisting of over 100 countries. The NAM countries make up 2/3 of the United Nations and contain 55% of the world's population. Nam was formed in 1954, and its purpose is "the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of non-aligned countries in their struggle against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, apartheid, racism, Zionism, and all forms of foreign aggression, occupation, domination, interference or hegemony as well as against great power and bloc politics"
NAM has five prinicples:
1. Mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty
2. Mutual non-aggression
3. Mutual non-interference in domestic affairs

Bush and Rove have a $450 Million Dollar Slush Fund
Camada and the United States signed the Softwood Lumber agreement on Tueday, Sept 13.
$450 million dollars is now in a White House Slush Fund. Money that really belongs to the Canadian people....or the American people.
Money that can be used to to illegally influence the 2006 elections. The agreeement bypassed all the normal channels, including Congress so there is no oversight and no accountability for this money. Rove and Bush can set it up to spend it anyway they wish. Many in the Canadian parliament are already calling this the slush fund for stealing the 2006 US election.
This is more money that the Democratic National Committee has it it's cofffers....It is approximately equal to what the Repuclican National Committee has in their war chest.
So...why is everything so quiet out there. Obviously our Attorney General refuses to enforce any laws when it comes to the White House.
Where's the uproar?

Friends,

Iraqi Rebels control Western Iraq
CNN reported today that the "insurgents" now control Western Iraq not the US.
I know that it would have been as accurate to report this as the Iraqi rebels now control Western Iraq....
This war on terror is also a war of words. Too often the words used distort the truth.
I believe the term rebel is more accurate because it is the more familiar term in usuage in our country (pre terror world linguistic changes). It also means insurgent.
After all, 92 percent of the Iraqi's want the US to leave their country. They do not want a foreign occupation.
It's time for the Bush administration to listen to the people of America and Iraq. The majority of Americans and Iraqi's want the US to stop using it's military as a foreign occupation force in Iraq.
No amount of propaganda from Bush, his Rove droves, and their partners in our mainstream media are going to change the will of the people. We are still currently legally entitled choose for ourselves what we want. Hopefully Bush's limits to our freedoms in the name of national security won't change this fact anytime soon.
When is Bush going to listen to the people? If he won't...when are we going to force him to listen?

Olympia Snowe--Maine's Republican Senator
Olympia Snowe, the 59 year old Republican Senator from Maine is known as "an unlikely Internet heroine." Maine has no major technology headquarters. Snowe even admits she's not proficient on the web.
But Snowe has surfaced as a key leader in the congressional battle to preserve Net Neutrality.
Snowe has taken on both her party leadership and their corporate masters, refused to rubber stamp the Republican corporate agenda, and stands firm in support of her constituents.
She is one of those rare Republicans who knows how to work in a bi-partisan way. She co-sponsored a bill--The Internet Preservation Act--with North Dakota's Senator Byron Dorgan (D) which allowed the current rules of Net Neutrality to continue.
Snowe displays a better understanding of the internet than Ted Stevens. She stated:
Maine should be proud of Olympia Snowe. I would be pleased to have someone of her caliber to represent me. Here is a Republican protecting our freedom, not restricting it. That is becoming rare in today's "Republican terror war world."
I wish we could transplant some of her backbone into Senator John Warner....who still has not taken a public stand on Net Neutrality. (I'm still waiting for the Congressional investigation on torture that Warner promised the country.)
As far as rubber stamp George Allen? How could I "omit" him. An entire Olympia Snowe spinal transplant wouldn't do the trick. He lacks the integrity or ethics to know what to do with a spine. Bullies have no spine and no one wants them to.
George Allen is on record as AGAINST Net Neutrality. Unfortunately, Allen prefers to represent the telecommunications industry over his constituents and has received a lot of money for his campaign coffers.
Please contact Senator John Warner and ask him to take a public stand supporting Net Neutrality. It's a no brainer. This is the bill that pits the telecommunications corporation against his constituents. Remind Warner that constituents vote.
I think Allen has forgotten that fact.

“What has made the Internet such a remarkable success is the ability of people everywhere to experience a world of their own choosing on their own terms. This freedom has fostered an unprecedented exchange of information and ideas that has led to an explosion in consumer choice, the creation of new businesses, and the spread of democratic ideals around the globe. Unfortunately, if Congress does not act, the age of digital democracy will come to an end. Senator Dorgan and I introduced the Internet Freedom Preservation Act to prevent fundamental changes to the internet that would undo the democratic principles upon which it was founded.”
