The above comment seems very misinformed to me. Thanks for the post.

Really? His conviction is still under appeal to this day. I happen to think he is innocent. Certainly scores of Black Panthers were murdered, framed and beaten into false confessions in the 60's and 70's by the police and FBI. This was often open warfare. Having lived a couple of blocks from Black Panther Headquarters in Oakland in the 60s for several months, I took an added interest in what they were all about. They were revolutionaries at the core, although some of them drifted into crime too, unfortunately, but they were targeted for destruction almost immediately by the authorities, who went after them mercilessly.

I have heard from both sides about the Panthers, from cops in Richmond, California when I was a cab-driver in the 70's for a time, who related Panther drug activities and mobster-type actions, but also from Panthers and other activists who considered the Panthers an inevitable reaction to egregious police brutality and racism.

Richmond, CA cops, for instance, routinely referred to Blacks in my company, thinking I was a good ole boy, as "niggers", and would tell colorful anecdotes about how they beat the shit out of troublemakers at city hall on the elevator from the first floor to the jail floor. And California isn't nearly as bad as, say, Louisiana, home of Angola Prison, where brutal torture was routine and may still be. Then there were the recent revelations in the media about torture activities against Blacks by units of the Chicago Police Department.

But even if Mumia is guilty, does that negate what he is saying? If you went out and killed someone tomorrow, I would not stiff you if you were speaking truth about something. He was a journalist before he was convicted, and remains one now from the confines of his cell.

Mumia is not making this stuff up about the School of the Americas, which is now protested, whatever its current name is, annually by large contingents.

Nor is he making up the training and funding of the Mujadhadeen by the CIA. This is very well established. You may disagree with his rhetoric and analysis, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I will probably get into the merits of his conviction later on.
This is the second time I have posted him, by the way. Perhaps you missed the first one.
