US needs to take over BP....

If the government can take over giant global insurer AIG and the auto giant General Motors and replace their CEOs, in order to keep them financially solvent, it should be able to put BP's north American operations into temporary receivership in order to stop one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history.--Robert Reich

Robert Reich gives us numerous reasons why BP should not continue to maintain control over the Gulf Oil Clean up. I will add one more reason....the costs of this catastrophe may exceed the total net worth of BP and the American taxpayer and the local small businesses in the gulf region must not be left holding the bag

President Barack Obama needs to take over BP and insure that the BP cover up stops immediately and that the primary goal becomes cleaning up the Gulf Oil Spill regardless of the costs to BP and insure that we get a transparent process.

This needs to be done last week....

Wow. Company has accident, or engages in wrongdoing (you really don't know which), and you advocate a government takeover.

Color me suprised.

Hello Jim.

Here is the only interesting aspect of Reich's argument: "If the government can take over giant global insurer AIG and the auto giant General Motors and replace their CEOs, in order to keep them financially solvent, it should be able to put BP's north American operations into temporary receivership in order to stop one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history."

Every time the government oversteps its authority, proponents for big government use that as a pretext for next overreach of government authority. That is not logical. It is like a child saying he can stay up after 10 PM on a school night because Mama and Daddy gave in the night before. If it was wrong the night before, it is still wrong.

Where overreaches of government authority are not challenged and allowed to stand, there is no limit on government power. How can that be a good thing? Of course, it is not a good thing.

What is peculiar about some people is that they do not want government in their bedrooms, but they seem content to have government running their lives in every other room plus everywhere else in the country. Just because big government looks like an easy solution does not mean it is a good solution. It just means some people are gullible.

If we allow our government to take over every difficult problem, we won't solve any problems. We will just give ignorant, power hungry people an opportunity to get in the way.

Nobody can be trusted with unlimited power. If we could find someone so trustworthy (and that ain't Obama), we still could not find anyone with the necessary competence to weld such power properly.

For example, consider this case. The folks in Washington know next to nothing about drilling an oil well. At best, all Obama would do is hire another oil company to fix the leak. When BP already appears to be doing its best, what is the point?

Moreover, if Washington took over plugging the hole, it would lose any objectivity. Instead of being BP's problem, the leak would become Obama's problem. We are going to get the truth then from Obama? You really think so? If you do not believe BP, why would you believe Obama? He sounds nicer?

My gracious the Gulf of Mexico is being destroyed....isn't the main function of government to keep it's people safe?

BP is lying, covering up and looking after their bottom line. We need our government to step up to the plate and hopefully help save our planet (literally).

Anyone who suggests that BP should NOT be put into receivership is a twit or a lawyer and probably on some large corporations payroll. The JOB of the government is to protect the people and our way of life against threats foreign and domestic. BP is a corporation and by it's very definition is a sociopatic liar only looking out for it's shareholders and executives interests. Receivership would give 'we the people' insight into what is really happening and it's long term affects. It would also allow us to call in government agencies to help mitigate the problem as quickly as possible for the public good.

Don't be a twit and think that BP is doing it's 'best'. Speak out against this kind of corporate environmental destruction. Just look at at the Exxon Valdez disaster for proof of corporate evilness. They STILL have not cleaned up from that spill because they can afford legions of lawyers to stall the process.

Since nine years I try to takeover BP by selling oilpollution, I found at words´ beaches.
I produce crude oil on canvas!
And I buy shares from the money I earn from these art works.

BP is a company for an artist only.
