The United FASCIST State of America,,,,

Dr. Lawrence Britt's 14 defining characteristics of Facism-:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems,
the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, [or during a corporate created disaster in the Gulf] is very common. [Some say that Obama has the WORST record of any President when it comes to protecting whistleblowers.]
7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. [Latest example is BP--the criminals get to cover up--"clean-up."]
10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Who would have thought that President Obama would be leading us deeper into fascism?

This is over the top. The United States is a long way from being a fascist nation.

Do we have fascists and are they a threat to our freedom? Absolutely.

But it is unhelpful to attack our entire nation. If you really believe this, then perhaps it might be time for you to flee.

okay jc wilmore why not show me which of these 14 characteristics is NOT TRUE?

It's OVER THE TOP that BP is in charge of the gulf oil clean up and is using dispersants to cover up their crime and the coast guard to keep the media and concerned citizens from witnessing the disaster down there.

So think about it a bit and realize that there's a lot of stuff that's over the top but this list being applied to what's happening today is not one of them....

For a change, I agree with J.C.

For one thing, it's "LaUrence Britt," not "LaWrence Britt." Second, he's not a "Dr." of any kind.

As for President Barry, I've no use for him, but these elements have no authority (I prefer Hannah Arendt, myself), and he can hardly be accused of "suppressing the power of labor." Promoting it would be a valid charge.

James Young will you give me the links/sources for your information on Dr. Laurence/Lawrence Britt? I would like to see the evidence of your claim. Labor has been suppressed for decades and the policies of Bush/Cheney and Bill Clinton severely eroded labor's power. This is evidenced by the disappearing middle class in our country and the rise of a few wealthy elites at the expense of many many people. Labor is very upset by the Obama administration b/c they have NOT brought the change in policy that was promised and Labor issues continue NOT to be addressed. In the meantime the Obama Whitehouse continues to look like a more radical and efficient tool of the folks behind the Bush administration curtain.

These 14 traits appear to be accurate descriptors of a fascist nation. (They surely don't apply to any freedom loving country that I have observed.) I find it so interesting that you may want to dispute what I wrote but neither of you focused on the main points....the 14 traits. It appears that my original point--Fascism in America-- has not been dealt with by either of you. It appears that you were unable to converse with me as to why any of these traits don't apply to the "corporate/public/private" USA operations today. I realize that it's shocking to even suggest the truth in times like these but I believe that we did not get change with the last election and it's disappointing that we continue in the direction of a fascist nation.
I am NOT comparing Obama to Hitler btw....This is a systemic issue that goes beyond Obama. (I'm extremely disappointed that he did not bring change but brought a continuation of the BUSH/CHENEY corporate agendas.)
I'm stating that the corporate/governmental blend that occurs in fascist states (such as Italy, Spain and/or Germany) is occurring in our nation right now and we need to look at this hard truth in order to correct the current course. I don't see either of you showing me that this is not the case.
