Corporate Prisons are Inhumane

The corporate agenda to privatize government is a horrible idea. Privatized prison systems are inhuman. Check out the latest exposed abuse.

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." -- Albert Einstein

What kind of people allow these abuses? Can you turn a blind eye to institutional torture?

This instance is not sufficient information upon which to call for the abolition of outsourced correctional facilities. However, it should be used as a basis for more extensive audits.

Here in Virginia, the companies who run the regional jails have no real oversight. The boards who are supposed to govern each facilities are made up of local political cronies who do nothing to rock the boat.

We need more rigorous inspections by independent bodies and the boards need to be replaced with citizens elected to those positions.

Of course the larger questions should be:

1. Why does Virginia put so many people in jail, when most are non-violent offenders of drug and other misdemeanor level crimes?

2. Can Democrats and Republicans recognize that corporate America is pushing for outsourcing business opportunities, because we have created such a ridiculous web of workplace laws, environmental and OSHA mandates, that we have drastically diminished domestic manufacturing?

We need to stop jailing non-violent offenders, and we must reform our laws to promote the reconstruction of our domestic manufacturing base.
