I do follow the courage of my convictions...I am a pacifist and I regularly march and speak out for my belief that war should be the LAST OPTION, not the first. Surely, war should not be fought by the middle and lower class of a nation for the economic benefit of the upper class? (The folks profiting from this war definitely represent that top 1% of our population)Another Logically-Flawed Attack
Well, another moonbat fool is attacking Republicans who support America's efforts in Iraq, but whose children are not fighting there, asserting that "Mitt Romney supports the Iraq war [sic] so .... Why isn't a single one of his five sons fighting in it?"
Of course, it's not a real question; it's just an effort to attack a Republican.
I've got a better question: "Mosquito" opposes American efforts (it's not a "war"; that was won four years ago), so why hasn't he gone to Iraq and taken up arms against American forces."
After all, if that's the measure of the courage of one's convictions for "Mosquito," clearly, he/she fails, too.
Or is it just his/her "logic" which miserably fails? posted by James Young
I consider it patriotic to speak out and attempt to steer my country on a course that I believe is more beneficial to my country.
I am shocked that you would actually propose to another American that they should take up arms against American troops. First, I support our troops (even though I don't support the mission) by advocating that they receive all the benefits due to them, including pay raises, quality health care, etc. etc. I have frequently criticized the Bush/Cheney regime for NOT advocating to increase the troops pay, benefits, or quality of healthcare. The last thing I would do is take up arms against American troops. Nor would I propose that any American (no matter what their beliefs) do such an un-patriotic, treasonous act.
Shame on you for proposing such a thing AND refusing to post my comment.

Here is what I posted:
I guess we can only conclude that none of the Romney sons believes in the "effort" enough to participate; or, lacks the courage to participate.
Don't sons get their values from their Dads?
Well said, Mos. James Young is as confused as most Republicans when it comes to the war in Iraq. We are there for the wrong reasons and solving the problems we have created there will only begin when we have left.
Thanks for the praise! Heck If Young is going to criticize another blogger he should at least be able to deal with comments in reply.... Buzz...Buzz...
Er, maybe you haven't taken up arms against America because you believe there are other ways to change American policy?
BTW, great post today by CDR Salamander about a guy who was willing to put his money where his mouth is.
I do have to wonder, however, why the children of the elite of this country no longer serve... There is a question there...
Nice post Mosquito, I came by way of buzzflash.
Whenever I hear the typical retort of your comment blocker here...I can't help but think that if we had a "lead from the front initiative" we'd have a lot less wars.
The fact is, a lot of people in power like the effect war has for their personal gain, but refuse to fight for it themselves, or send their own loved ones in to do the dirty work. After all, thats what wage slaves are for, isn't it?

As a vet and reservist, while I wish you would support our mission, I thank you for your support. That said, Mitt's sons don't join for the same reason that many who support the mission are not joining. They are not called to service, especially military service. Military service is an AVOCATION. Not everyone is called to it. We all, well most, support our country in the ways to which we are best suited.
cargosquid,
I have met many great military folks, and 2/3 of my brother in laws have been Navy or Marine officers. They are fine folks even if we don't always agree. My marine brother in law (recently retired) has surprised me with the areas we have agreed on. It's probably why he didn't make general his first time up....that's why he decided it was time to retire. When he was no longer promoted he figured it was time to move on to the next chapter in his life.
I do not believe that our sailors and troops are trying to do anything but support their country. Unfortunately, there are a few bad apples, that this current administration promoted, who are politicizing the military and actually spreading propaganda to further the goals of an aristocracy that has seized power in our country.
So, I have no reason to want to take anything away from our military personnel.
From the way I view things I would be betraying my country and not supporting the troops if I supported the mission that George Bush has us on. On this it appears that we will continue to respectfully dis-agree....but that is the American way....and we aren't trying to silence the other (now that's un-American)
Thanks for stopping by cargosquid!!
I'll make it a point to travel in your neighborhood soon....

I do agree with you and we are pleased you dropped by.
We also love Buzzflash and often cruise the internet using the Buzzflash website.
We have had the honor of being buzzed a number of times and have been on the buzzflash main page several times now. (That definitely makes us happy here at MB...it's like a special reward for our blogging efforts). It has defintely helped put us on the world map so to speak.
I'll try to fly by and check out your blog too...

Cargosquid - with all due respect I have only come across one politician who has a child in the military. (Duncan Hunter, R, CA). The question at hand isn't about the "call to service" but the amazingly large amount of politicians who vote for a war they would prefer their own children not fight. I'm sure that out of the hundreds, if not thousands of family members of politicians more than one (or possibly a few) would enlist. Our military is primarily made up of lower income men and women who are (or were, prior to war and some still are) looking for a way to get a college education, health benefits, and a career.
Our soldiers are strapped thin, doing two, three or more tours because we haven't met enlistment needs. Mainly, because, most people oppose the war, and refuse to fight it. Not so for politicians' kids though.
Instead they leave the dying to the rest of country.
A lead from the front initiative - meaning our leaders and the loudest proponents for war should put their money where their mouths are. They lead the battle, they set the example, and maybe people would support them.
Of course, there would a lot less wars.
Mosquito, thanks a bunch, drop by anytime!
VA's newly elected Democratic Senator Jim Webb has a son in the marines who has now served one tour of Iraq...

I stand corrected Mosquito, Two and counting!
Jimmy Young is a well-known coward. The fact that he needed to attack you and then block you from responding is yet another illustration, and demonstrates his quaking fear of you. Champagne all around!
So, I do not actually believe it is likely to work.
